Geometric Portrait of Joy Crookes
Inspired by an incredible concert in Camdem in 2019, I decided to paint a portrait of the singer Joy Crookes. A mix of Bangaldeshi and irish and a proud Londoner, Joy’s inclusive and empowering lycrics and energy soared accross the room. Her larger than life face in the painting peers into your soul, as the lyrics to her songs do. I have painted her witha mix of gold and bronze acrylics and spray paint. I put a layer of Escher over her face, my favourite geometric artist who combines surrealism and realism. I felt this was appropriate to meet the energy of the young star.
